I built a laser engraver cnc machine using spare parts I had laying around. To control its motion, I installed the Black Box Motion Controller. The black box came built and ready for install. It has multiple connection options for various set ups. The only issue I had, was that I have a 12volt diode laser, and this box runs off a 24volt power supply. I had to do additional wiring to get 24volts down to 12volts, because there is not a 12volt connector. Keep this in mind if you are planning to use this for laser engraving. So far, this is the best motion controller I have used, small form factor, and easy to work with.
It was simply to connect the steppers, and it worked flawlessly with the Openbuilds Control software. I highly recommend this controller.

I love the Black Box. Problem with a motor? There's a light for that. Need to use the probe? There's a connection for that. It is easy to assemble but if you're unsure of anything there's a very good assembly video on YouTube. I am very satisfied and would happily recommend.
The black box reduced the overall electrical hardware by a factor of four. It was plug and play. Easy to wire to my existing stepper motors. I built my CNC from plans in the Woodsmith magazine. and I have a much better movement along the y axis. One issue, better documentation on setting up soft limits.
